Soul of Man

An individual once asked me the following question: You say that man does not have a soul, but is a soul according to what the Bible tells us. How come religions teach that man has a soul if that is the case?
As you have read in my book, Church Doctrines: Right or Wrong? (You Decide), the scriptures are very plain in saying that man does not have a soul, but is a soul. Genesis 2:7 is very plain in demonstrating this fact.
Religions, regardless of their teaching on this matter, are dependant on philosophical arguments for their theology. Their supposedly pointing to scriptural references to back their theology up is very vaporous. And then, of course, they also have to reference Church Fathers to claim that it was always taught as a point of belief. It is the church fathers that various religions fall back on to put this claim forth as a Tradition of the Church. The Apostle Paul was very plain when he said: See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ (Col. 2:8). Are we to depend upon the philosophy of men with their ideas instead of the plain truth of Scriptures? I don't think so. For a Christian one simple sentence of revelation must in the end outweigh the weightiest conclusions of man-made philosophy (John W. Wenham, page 29). This all Christians should agree with.
Many will say that it is only I that hold to this teaching, but that is far from the case. There are millions and millions of people, Biblical Scholars, Teachers, Preachers, and laymen that say the same things as I say. They may have a different way of saying it, but it all boils down to the same thing-Man is a Soul!
